Welcome to iamtallpoppy.com

My name is Casey. I am the director of the Tall Poppy Group. We take little things and find ways to make them grow. I hope you find this blog useful - It's a bunch of thoughts, lessons, insights, mistakes and observations; all from the quest to be a tall poppy in a status quo world.

Outsourcing – Think outside the box

There are SO MANY possibilities around this… especially for those of us who are full time employed and want to built our thing on the side – but don’t have the time throughout the week and like to retain some semblance of a social life. But really, ANYONE can benefit from outsourcing. Once you try it the possibilities become obvious and VERY exciting.

Microsoft systems crash following update

The irony of this issue is that it will only affect PC’s that are already infected with particular viruses. It’s disappointing that Microsoft have just yanked the patch in response though… All those who aren’t infected and would otherwise receive the benefit of the update miss out will Microsoft redesign a kernel patch to accommodate a piece of malware… go figure.

Tall Poppy Group – Update

I often get puzzled looking people, some who know me quite well (including, occasionally, my wife) looking at me quizzically and asking: So what is it you are actually doing at the moment?
So here’s the February update. I write this as much for myself as anyone who is interested to read it.

Apple snubs Flash, Pushes HTML5 – An interesting play.

Steve Jobs is on record saying that “the world is going to HTML5″. Interesting to pick up from the NY Times article the reports of sudden influxes of people requesting Vimeo (a video sharing site and competitor to Youtube) to support HTML5 encoding. Why do you think that is? I’d suggest that it’s because those who have asked for the changes either own, plan to own, or are targeting their content towards Apple Mobile users.

Bold When Others Are Cautious

NOTE: THIS POST WAS WRITTEN OCTOBER 10, 2008, WHEN THE GFC WAS ON A VERY STRONG DOWNWARDS SWING. WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT THOSE WHO HEEDED THIS FACEBOOK NOTE AT THE TIME, EXPECIALLY IN THE STOCK MARKET, WOULD BE DOING VERY WELL RIGHT NOW.
I’ve probably spent too much time watching the stock exchange and the [...]

Whatever Your Hand finds to Do

Image via Wikipedia

Here’s the thing… I would describe myself as someone who is continually pregnant with the plans and dreams and hopes I know God Himself has planted in me, and will bring to pass. The problem is, there is the ever-present mundane-ness of the now…
You know the deal “I’m going to change the world, [...]

Keeping the Lights On

KLO means Keep Lights On. It’s an fairly recent term heard floating around the enterprise, it’s the process of jettisoning absolutely everything non-essential to maintain the survival of the company through extreme circumstances. My family and I aren’t in one of those situations at the moment, far from it, but if we ever where to be, what would my KLO look like?

Sticking with Plan A

Quick thought… I’m the kind of person who is very quick to start working out contingency plans if a dream, goal, task or venture or mine doesn’t seem to be panning out.
When bumps in the road come, my mind spawns a whole range of Plan B’s, way that I can change tack and either recover [...]
